Single-engine low-wing trainer from North American Aviation. Used during WW II for training both bomb pilots and "gunners" in the USA. A large number remained after the war and in 1947. 175 aircraft were purchased for the Swedish Air Force. Some were made in Canada by Noorduyn Aviation like the one in our museum.

In 1950 several more were purchased. These were of a different version and were designated Sk 16 B or C.

In Sweden they were operated at Ljungbyhed as a type II trainer aircraft, ie as a heavier trainer. Otherwise, it came into use as a general purpose aircraft distributed across all fleets. Found in many Air Forces and has also been in battle e.g. in Korea.

This aircraft in the museum flew as a service aircraft 1947-1951 by the Swedish Flight Attaché in Washington DC. Blue painted with crown marks and code SE-01. The aircraft was then returned to Sweden.
